Any lingering doubts about credentials of the host nation to win the 2015 title have been dispelled following their second comprehensive victory in four days. A crowd of over 50,000 at Stadium Australia in Sydney witnessed the Socceroos turn on attacking fluency backed up with solid defence to outplay a disappointing Omani side who had only three days before thoroughly tested the Korea Republic.

Prior to the match, most home fans were confident of winning even though at the previous four encounters between the two teams, the Omanis had not lost against the Socceroos in World Cup qualifiers. Indeed in March 2013, at this same venue Australia was perhaps rather fortunate to salvage a 2-2 draw. However, since November 2013 the coaching philosophy of Ange Postecoglou has steered a fresh pathway to evolve their playing style with depth in regenerated squad development.
