KAS Eupen concluded their preparations for the new season with a 2-0 win over Tubize on Saturday at Kehrweg Stadion.
The Belgian club went undefeated in five pre-season matches, that included a 3-2 win over Greek giants Olympiakos last week. An achievement that will surely boost the morale of Claude Makélélé’s men ahead of their opening league match against Club Brugge on July 29th.
The French coach made only one change to the starting lineup that faced the Greek side, as Japanese striker Yuta Toyokawa replaced Armenia international Ivan Yagan in the front line.
Seven new signings took part in the game, and they made the difference against the side that finished bottom of the second division last season, only to be saved by the bankruptcy of Lierse.
Lauren Megan, who replaced injured Danijel Milićević near the end of the first half, gave Eupen the lead in the 58th minute after a pass from David Pollet.
Yagan, who joined the Pandas from Lierse this summer, sealed the victory with a late strike.
The club, owned by Qatar’s Aspire Zone, will be hoping for a good start to avoid the tense finale of last season, when they avoided relegation in the final minutes of the closing matchday, thanks to a better goal difference than bottom- of-the-table Mechelen.
