KAS Eupen in Doha for their winter training camp

For the fourth year in a row, KAS Eupen are spending their winter break in Doha, where new head coach Claude Makélélé will be hoping to reignite his team ahead of a challenging second half of the season.

The 44-year-old former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder took over from Jordi Condom last November, but despite slight improvement in results, the team is still bottom of the Belgian Pro League table.

Only two points separate the Aspire-Zone-owned club from safety, but with a couple of new signings during the winter break, in addition to the return of Qatar national team players, things look set to improve for the Pandas, who will resume their league duties in a big derby against Standard Liege on January 20th.

The 24-man-squad in Doha is still missing Akram Afif and Assim Madibo, who are on international duty with the Qatar U-23  side in China, but Abdulkarim Hassan rejoined the team in Doha after taking part in the Gulf Cup with the national side last month.

The list includes two young Aspire Academy Qatari graduates, Abdollah Ali Saei and Ahmed Homam ElAmin.

“The training camp is a good opportunity to integrate the new players and we have already seen in the last couple of days that our new joiners have good characters that fit perfectly with the rest of the team.” Christoph Henkel, KAS Eupen-Director General.
