Al Shabab - Saudi Arabia (2) [Omar Al Ghamdi 33' 39']
Al Jaish (0)
In their first ever appearance in Asian club competitions, Al Jaish suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Saudi League champions Al Shabab in Riyadh.
Last year's QSL runner-ups could have done better if they took their chances in front of the Saudi team during the first half, but in stead they went into the break by two quick goals scored by Omar Al Ghamdi.
The veteran midfielder, who represented the Saudi national team in two FIFA World Cups, sent a powerful low drive from outside the box in the 33rd minute and the ball took a deflection before hitting the back Ahmed Sofian's net.
He was in the right place six minutes later to finish a great pass from Marcelo Camacho with a close range effort.
Al Jaish's man of the match was without doubt their goalkeeper Ahmed Sofian, who was in great from and made a number of brilliant saves. The young keeper is tipped to be the future goalkeeper of the national team.
Al Shabab - UAE (1)
The QSL defending champions made a winning start to their second consecutive campaign in AFC Champions League as they came back from behind to defeat Al Shabab of UAE 2-1.
The home team made a slow start and saw themselves falling behind in just ten minutes to Edgar da Silva's goal who took advantage of a piece of poor defending an d goalkeeping to tab the ball in from close range.
Ten minutes later the in-form Sebastian Soria equalized with a powerful shot inside the box after a perfect cross from Issiar Dia, and just after the half hour Lekhwiya took the lead thanks to a pinpoint free kick from Tunisia's Yousef Al Msakni that hit the inside of the far post before finding the back of the net.
Both teams wasted a number of easy chances over the two periods, as Lekhwiya held on to the victory.
