Vercauteren is the new Al Khor Coach

Belgian coach Franky Vercauteren will replace Frenchman Alain Perrin at Al Khor, the club announced on Wednesday.

The former Anderlecht and Genk coach will sign a two year contract according to the club officials. “The coach agreed on all contract details, he will now assess the team’s needs for next season, he showed great desire to take charge of the club and the deal is almost done” the club’s general secretary Mohamed Al Merikhi told DPA on Tuesday.

Perrin was named as the new coach of Qatar’s U-23 team.

Vercauteren was one of the stars of the Belgian national team in the 70’s and 80’s. After a highly successful career with Anderlecht, he started coaching in the 90’s.

His best achievements as coach were winning back-to-back league titles with Anderlecht (2005-06 & 2006-2007) before leading Genk in the 2010-11 season to their first league title in nine years.

He moved to the Gulf region last summer taking charge of UAE’s Al Jazirah, but parted company with the Abu Dhabi based club in March.
